This page is a collection of some of the Matchbox Collectibles models which were released as Platinum Editions.
At the end of 2000, Mattel made a great business decision that many question to this day. They eliminated the Yesteryear and Dinky series and merged them into one, known from then on as PLATINUM.
This was probably one of the first mistakes Mattel made. Always looking at the issue from the collector's side, it surely made the company a lot of money commercially.

The PLATINUM series disappeared quickly at the end of 2001, and the few pieces produced were not much, despite finding among them a Coca Cola Peterbilt that can cost more than US$100 today.
They left aside the details and metals used in the previous series (MOY & Dinky) to use more plastic that would make the models cheaper. Another big mistake for the collector.

At that time, any of these pieces could be purchased in toy stores for an average of $30.

It is easy to identify a model from the PLATINUM series since they are identified with 5-digit numbers without a prefix as we were used to with the past series.
